party central
so apparently scheduling children's photo shoots in the late afternoon/early evening hours during the month of july is not the best idea... but miranda, i thought early evening provided great lighting for a photo shoot? yes, my friend, indeed it does.
but here's the thing about this time of year and "early evening": there's either a huge thunderstorm approaching and/or happening, or it feels like you're baking in an oven.
such was the case this past week when my shoots were cancelled.
but lucky for me, there were 2 birthday parties over the weekend to shoot! corbin and izzy were born on the same day last year, and izzy's parents are great friends of ours. i'll share some shots of her party later, but for now, here are some of my favorites from corbin's big day...

auntie emmy and lucy enjoying cake...

he wasn't too sure about his cake, but seemed to like the sticky frosting...

ok, so he liked the frosting a lot!

a rare family shot... (thanks, auntie emmy)!

2 things i love about this next one - eating that kid's face, and seeing my man's scruff. very nice, dude. please don't shave any time soon.

back to lighting for a second... i happened to be out running errands last week just before the sun was setting, and was utterly amazed at how beautiful the sky was... of course, this was after the threat of storms had passed and things had cooled down a bit. and no, i didn't have a camera on me, but it was stunning to say the least. if anyone is up for a 7:30 shoot, this is definitely the time of year for it! since darkness doesn't set in until 9, there's a good hour or so of unbelievable lighting.
any takers....??
