uganda: monday in gulu
for some of us, monday morning
was spent on koro farm with a group of teens
who live and go to school there.
they have a work program on the farm
which helps them earn funds for schooling,
so a few of us helped (?) them with their morning chores
of weeding two pastures.
it was hard work, but we managed to have a little fun...
another group from our team
helped the staff and some of
the members of the koro community
to construct and erect the farm's first water tower.
they did this with a couple of tools, some rope, a small level,
and concrete that was literally
made from scratch and mixed by hand.
after lunch, we traveled to
the village of lagutu to visit the
school which was started by sports outreach institute.
there are over 200 children ages k-3rd grade
attending this school, and just 4 teachers.
this is the school's kitchen:
this man and his wife donated the land which
the school is on to sports outreach.
they were very excited to see us,
and so proud to have their picture taken.
later, we drove even further into the bush
to the village of pugwini to view sports outreach's
newest school which began in 2009.
and, of course, for
a friendly little soccer match
between the staff and the locals.
thanks to my friend kelly,
i have a couple of pictures of me with the kiddies
(we were making silly faces)! :)
after the soccer match, we gathered
around all of the villagers and prayed
over them and their children...
it was such a beautiful and sweet time
spent with the people of pugwini.
